Problem installing Ubuntu (12.04 LTS) on windows 8

Problem installing Ubuntu (12.04 LTS) on windows 8

My computer is running win 8, although it did not come pre-installed with
it, came with win 7. BiOS setup is accessible, if that helps.
I downloaded the executable (iso) from the Ubuntu website and installed it
from windows. Upon restarting, it does not show me the Boot Manager page.
On the first restart, it simply got stuck on a blank (black) screen. After
20 minutes, I did a hard restart. This time, it loads, shows the Win 8
boot screen first (http://i.imgur.com/x7OloTu.png [1] ) and then shows me
the option to choose the OS (Similar to:http://i.imgur.com/QsXIOjB.png [2]
). This is itself a Win 8 loaded page.
Once I choose Ubuntu from the options here, it restarts, shows the Ubuntu
boot screen and goes black. Last thing I hear is a slap on a congo drum
and then nothing. The computer is still running but nothing loads.
I need to run Win 8 for some programs so I cannot remove it altogether.
I'm planning to partition a small hard drive (max size possible is 2 gigs
just found out) and install Ubuntu on it from a Live USB, but wanted to
ask for some opinion before that. Thanks.
